Phi Beta Kappa members and their guests toured St. James Cathedral, first dedicated in 1907 and extensively renovated in 1994. The ceremonial bronze doors created by the renowned German artist Ulrich Henn in 1999 were among the tour's highlights.

Innovative Interpretation: The Visitor Experience Redefined
Susan Warner, Museum of Glass director of education, spoke. The luncheon reservations included admission to the history museum, which had such exhibits as Wrapped in Tradition, elegant blankets made for the Indian trade from Dale Chihuly's personal collection, with glass cylinders that the blankets inspired. After lunch, attendees had the opportunity to cross the Chihuly Bridge of Glass and visit the Museum of Glass.

Professor Jere Bacharach, Professor of History, University of Washington, addressed attendees at the Washington Athletic Club. He used slides to illustrate unusual materials, coins, and monuments, exploring how varied approaches to Islam coalesced into a recognizable Islamic identity.
