Visit to the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI)

When: Saturday, April 20, 10:30 a.m.

Where: MOHAI, 860 Terry Avenue N., Seattle, WA 98109

 

You and your guests are invited to join us for a self-guided tour of the Museum of History and Industry in the South Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle. After we tour the exhibits, we will meet for no-host coffee and treats at Gourmondo at MOHAI.

 

Our group will meet inside the entrance to MOHAI and enter the museum together at 10:30 a.m.

 

We will first visit their current exhibit, Pulling Together: A Brief History of Rowing in Seattle.

We will also visit their permanent exhibits:

  • True Northwest: The Seattle Journey

  • Bezos Center for Innovation

  • Maritime Seattle

For additional information about the museum, please visit the MOHAI website. You can also get directions to the museum and parking information.

Frederick M. Lawrence, Secretary/CEO, The Phi Beta Kappa Society

When: Wednesday, May 15, 11:45 a.m.

Where: Seattle Yacht Club, 1807 E. Hamlin Street, Seattle, WA 98112

Frederick M. Lawrence is the 10th secretary and CEO of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the nation’s first and most prestigious honor society, founded in 1776. Lawrence is a Distinguished Lecturer at the Georgetown Law Center, and has previously served as president of Brandeis University, Dean of the George Washington University Law School, and Visiting Professor and Senior Research Scholar at Yale Law School. He was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 2018 and the American Law Institute in 1999.

An accomplished scholar, teacher and attorney, Lawrence is one of the nation’s leading experts on civil rights, free expression and bias crimes. Lawrence has published widely and lectured internationally. He is the author of Punishing Hate: Bias Crimes Under American Law (Harvard University Press, 1999), examining bias-motivated violence and the laws governing how such violence is punished in the United States. He is an opinion contributor to The Hill and US News, frequently contributes op-eds to various other news sources, such as Newsweek, The Boston Globe, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Observer, The New York Daily News and The Huffington Post, and has appeared on CNN among other networks.

The luncheon will take place on Wednesday, May 15, at the Seattle Yacht Club. Free parking is available in the adjacent parking lot. The luncheon will start at 11:45 a.m. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. The cost of the luncheon is $50 per person, and guests are welcome. For your entrée you may select either lemon-herb chicken or vegetarian squash ravioli. Your meal will be served with rolls and butter and your choice of coffee, tea, or soda.  Please let us know if you have any special dietary requests, i.e., if you need a gluten-free or vegan meal.
