Day hike and picnic lunch, Cougar Mountain

Saturday, August 12, 10 a.m.
Cougar Mountain Regional Wildlife Park, Red Town Trailhead
Bellevue

Please join us for an easy-to-moderate 2-mile hike at Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park, Red Town Trailhead. Family members and guests are welcome to join us.

After the hike we will have a picnic lunch/barbecue at the Cougar Mountain home of Linda and Jay Willenberg. (Linda is president of PSA-PBK.) Hotdogs/sausages will be provided. Please bring your own side dish/brown bag lunch or other foods to barbecue.

Directions: From Seattle or I-405, take I-90 eastbound. Take Exit 13 for Lakemont Boulevard S.E. The exit ramp splits. Stay in the right lane marked Lakemont Boulevard S.E. At the bottom of the exit ramp turn right onto Lakemont Boulevard S.E.

Head south on Lakemont Boulevard S.E. up the hill for 3.1 miles to the Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park, Red Town Trailhead parking lot. The parking lot is on the left-hand side where the road makes a sharp bend to the right.

Approximately 1.25 miles up Cougar Mountain on Lakemont Boulevard S.E. you will pass a Starbucks and a grocery store. Approximately 0.5 miles further, on the left, is Lewis Creek Picnic Area and Lewis Creek Park. Both have restrooms. The Red Town Trailhead parking lot is approximately another 1.5 miles, on the left. There are two Port-a-Potties at the trailhead.

See a map of the park (PDF) or a Google map of the trailhead.

A member of the Issaquah Alps Trails Group will join us on our day hike to discuss the historical background of Cougar Mountain and the environmental impacts from the historic mine. What a great opportunity to come together and enjoy the wonderful outdoors just a few minutes from Seattle!

Please contact Linda Willenberg at [email protected] or call her at (425) 641-1606 if you plan to attend or have questions. You can also come to the Willenbergs’ home by 9:30 a.m. on the 12th to drop off food and carpool to the trailhead. Contact Linda for directions.
